When my mother was sick, my father was helped by the community and your father, Rabbi Ernest Neumann, who was a very special person to us. He would come to our house and talk to my mother, who was bedridden. I went to Timişoara twice that year, once to convince them to apply for a passport to come here and the second time I stayed for a month to help them sell the household items. Your father called me and said, “Come to me at the Community. I want to discuss something with you.” In his office, he told me: “Whatever help you need, we’ll give it to you; just say so!” I asked him for a wheelchair to walk my mother because she could no longer walk. He gave us one and sent us food at home. Your father knew my parents well and knew about the collection. He invited my father to hold conferences at the Community, about the deportation, the camp, and the life of the Jews during the war. Your father was an extraordinary man, an exceptional man. I have very nice memories of him.
